By BANHAM Architects
Situated near the coast in South City Beach, the brief for this house was for it to be open, relaxed and to embrace the views of Jubilee Park and the ocean. A series of floating horizontal planes form a striking juxtaposition to the robust basalt stone walls. A clean modern aesthetic was adopted with natural materials used wherever possible. Extensive glazing creates a transparent structure with spaces that flow from inside to out. Glass multi track sliding doors open the house for outside living and entertaining. All the Living areas are open to allow for ample natural light, cross ventilation and maintain the sense of space. Adjustable sun louvers to the expansive cantilevered roofs provide passive climate control.
