A luxurious and functional kitchen designed as a social hub, featuring a spacious open plan layout, elegant finishes, and a minimalist color palette, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor living for year-round entertaining.

Luxurious and elegant were the first words used by my clients when describing their vision for their new kitchen, which needed to be the hub for social gatherings while also being a functional and practical space for everyday life with two grown sons. Situated centrally in a spacious new home surrounded by a nature reserve and golf course, the kitchen is part of a large open plan living space opening onto a large north-west facing patio and covered deck area for year-round outdoor entertaining.

The large central island features high and deeply recessed mirrored toe spaces, which serve to accentuate the polished concrete floors and give the illusion that the island is grounded by the singular waterfall leg. The decision was made to keep this space free from all plumbing and appliances, allowing the expansive engineered stone bench to be used as an informal dining space, a casual spot for a Sunday morning coffee or servery for large social gatherings.

Ample drawers provide accessible storage, ensuring all members of the family can comfortably use the space. Recessed handles are fitted within negative detailing to all below bench cabinetry, this sleek feature is continued through the overhead cabinetry and stone waterfall leg to tie all elements of the kitchen together.

The minimalist colour palette is softened with the use of recon veneer, which gives the black overhead cabinetry and island back panel a warm, tactile quality. The delicate veining of the engineered stone splashback unifies the black and white elements to provide an sophisticated and cohesive statement.

Professional Reviews

“Thank you so much for our fabulous kitchen, pantry & laundry. We are really pleased with everything that your team has made for us. It was really easy right from the start when we talked about what we wanted to you putting the kitchen in on the exact date that we wanted it done. Our builder was sceptical about us using someone other than who they usually worked with. However he was really impressed with the care that you took and the obvious pride you had in your product. He has admired the quality of the work – and commented to us about it. We will certainly be recommending Modern Age to anyone who asks.”
