Transforming a rural dam into a vibrant habitat and recreational space for family enjoyment, featuring a windmill for water circulation, shaded areas, and diverse wildlife.
A rural dam with so much potential.
Our clients wanted to turn their under-utilised dam into a habitat haven for local fauna and a playful swimming hole for their grandchildren. The windmill is an icon in the rural Australian landscape and is used here to oxygenate and move water across the site.
Two large established willows were retained for much needed shade in the heat of summer while the other willows were removed to make space for local tree species. The boardwalk and deck provide a shaded entertaining area, whilst crossing the inflow wetland. For those more adventurous there’s also some raised rock steppers to cross the wetland.
This project is already home to a white-necked heron, a white-faced heron and a small flock of wood ducks. We can’t wait to see what other wildlife moves in once the plants grow a bit to provide food and shelter.
