A timeless retail space for M.M Linen at Westfield Newmarket, showcasing elegant bed linen and homeware through thoughtful design, authentic materials, and a unique customer experience.
The P&T brief was to create a unique and timeless design that would represent M.M Linen as a brand and showcase its elegantly designed and crafted bed linen and home-ware. Careful material selection and specification was key to the success of the project to ensure the project was within a restricted budget for the 143m2 site.
As the brand’s first retail store the space needed to provide customers with a unique and authentic brand experience, telling a story whilst complimenting the beautiful product and ranges within.
Drawing inspiration from the brands core values and timeless product designs the space was created to take customers on a journey – initial space planning and flow was considered to move and draw customers throughout the space and into the deepest parts of the store, a central skylight and floating Mark Antonia feature flower display acts as a central axis point whilst providing a subtle link to the brand's hand-painted botanical and floral prints.
Curves are introduced throughout including the storefront and entry glazing to showcase the organic nature of the brand and its fitout - this is a consistent feature throughout the space including the feature tiled POS counter that has been positioned at the rear as an anchor and to allow for the unique hand plastered and painted feature wall and its offset branding to be the real focal point as customers walk past or into the store.
Authentic materials were selected throughout to age and mature over time – oak timber flooring and joinery, curved mosaic tiles, hand plaster and featured painted shop front and rear walls provide key features set against a neutral but well-detailed space.
As a retail store, it was imperative that the store functioned to allow staff to complete and run processes quickly whilst also allowing for flexibility.
Bespoke joinery including library ladders provide a sense of uniqueness and the specification of warm directional lighting allows for merchandising to be curated and tailored to seasonal or promotional changes.
To provide a true reflection of the brand and its high-quality product it was essential that the fitout quality and detailing execution be to a very high standard – this was achieved with the selection of a contractor that has a real eye for detail and ability to go above and beyond to achieve a fantastic result.
