Introducing Mahia Bach: A Tranquil Retreat on the West Coast of the Mahia Peninsula

Welcome to Mahia Bach, a captivating beach house nestled on a remote cliff top plateau on the stunning west coast of the Mahia Peninsula. This exquisite location offers breathtaking views of the peninsula, the Pacific Ocean, Hawkes Bay, Mahia town, and the enchanting surrounding hills.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the building services of Mahia Bach are completely 'off grid,' requiring thoughtful consideration of module orientation, design, and detailing, as well as fixtures that prioritize conservative services use. This ensures a harmonious connection with nature while minimizing environmental impact.

Not only does Mahia Bach cater to the frequent visits of the owners, but it also provides comfortable accommodation for transient farm hands. The innovative design of transportable modules allows for flexibility and ease of construction, overcoming the challenges posed by the isolated location and limited capacity of local tradespeople. Each module is thoughtfully linked on-site with external north/west facing decks, creating a seamless blend between indoor and outdoor living spaces. The central covered secondary dining space acts as the heart of the bach, surrounded by two bedroom modules, a bunkroom, and an amenities module, ensuring ample space for relaxation and rejuvenation.

About the
Professional

We are dla, creators of top notch architecture

We're small enough to take care of everything from your modest residential renovation and big enough to design, document and deliver multi-million-dollar industrial and commercial facilities, with the in-house expertise to cater for all projects in between.

Dickson Lonergan Architects (DLA) was founded in Whanganui in 1974 with founding partners Bruce Dickson (retired) and the late Barry Lonergan. Once fully established in the Whanganui region, DLA then started to expand the business, first into Wellington in 1999 with Barry and Glenn starting up the capital city office. Then came the Timaru Office headed up by Murray Ackroyd in 2005 and the further expansion to Hamilton in 2010 with Martin Swann.

The opportunity then arose to open an Auckland office in 2015 with Alana moving north from Wellington. Now with 5 offices, DLA has evolved from its humble beginnings into a nationwide practice, with a passionate team of architects and designers who specialise in all fields from commercial, residential, industrial, interiors, education and public projects through to DLA’s main stay of large scale dairy and food processing architecture.
