Melbourne Airport - T2 International Arrivals Hall banner

Studco recently contributed to a significant $85 million refurbishment project undertaken by Australian Pacific Airports Melbourne (APAM) at Terminal 2. The project encompassed a complete overhaul of the International Arrivals Hall and connecting corridors. Studco’s expertise in building systems and engineering solutions was instrumental in realizing the terminal’s transformative vision.

Arc Plastering engaged Studco to supply and engineer critical components for the building systems within this space. A focal point of the project was a striking panoramic timber facade wall adorned with LED lighting spelling ‘Melbourne’. Studco’s engineering team developed a custom framing solution to support Grimshaw’s innovative architectural design. Renowned for their work on iconic projects such as London Heathrow Airport, Grimshaw created a visually captivating feature wall, complemented by Sculptform’s modular wall panelling.

In addition to the feature wall, Studco’s technical team provided engineered solutions for bulkheads and door openings throughout the terminal, ensuring strict adherence to building codes and client specifications. Collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders facilitated the optimal utilization of Studco’s building products and ensured a seamless project execution.

Studco’s selection for this project was underpinned by its proven track record in delivering practical solutions for complex projects. The building materials employed were required to meet stringent structural, security, and fire safety standards. The HEDA Tough Wall System was selected for interior wall openings to enhance structural integrity in high-traffic areas. Studco’s technical team rigorously adhered to security protocols and fire rating regulations to safeguard the airport’s operations.

The project presented unique challenges due to the airport’s ongoing operations. Studco’s team effectively managed logistics and responded swiftly to urgent requests and design modifications. Demonstrating exceptional problem-solving capabilities, Studco’s engineers provided timely solutions to complex issues, such as incorporating services within the feature wall without compromising structural integrity.

Studco is proud to have contributed to the revitalization of Melbourne Airport’s International Arrivals Hall, creating a welcoming space for returning travelers. From the inception of the project to its successful completion, Studco’s technical and customer service teams played a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality outcome.

Studco’s comprehensive range of building systems and engineering expertise are ideally suited to support dynamic and complex projects. To learn more about how Studco can assist with your project, please contact our team.
