Following Christchurch’s devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, a new Metro Sports Facility was envisioned for the community.
The design of this new world-class sporting facility included an indoor running track, swimming pool, and basketball and netball courts, all spread over a six-hectare site and able to accommodate 1,000 spectators.
The facility’s architect, Warren and Mahoney, engaged Diadem to develop the site’s multi-faceted wayfinding strategy.
Diadem’s wayfinding strategy delivered operational efficiency site-wide. As the facility was designed to easily pivot between the community’s day-to-day recreational needs and hosting national and international events, the signage needed to easily accommodate event overlays.
Diadem’s strategy-led design welcomes both pedestrians and cyclists, and supports the new Metro Sports Facility. Above all, the strategy reflected the overall mission of the site to facilitate a dynamic social hub by engaging and connecting the community through sport.
