Mosman House.

Colour, art and contemporary flair have been infused in this late Victorian home. Using the architectural bones of this late Victorian house circa1900 with add-ons over time, we worked with the clients’ brief to resolve the interior and create a robust home for their family that is light, spatially connected and has a cohesive design language that embraces their love of colour and art. We worked within the existing footprint, redesigning the internal spaces and remodelled all bathrooms to create sanctuary-like spaces with all the mod cons. The success of this delightful project was due to a large extent to a trusting and collaborative relationship with both our client and builder.

The furnishings are in keeping with the interior design language that has more than a hint of mid-century modern, with layers of texture and colour, shape and form creating a cohesive home reflecting the owners’ personalities. The colour choice of finishes and furniture were driven by the clients’ love of shades of green, amber and orange that we have introduced in the materials, soft furnishings and textile art in different hues throughout, while the saturated dusty blue-grey choice for the walls in the formal lounge were a perfect complement to the striking restored ceilings.

By reorienting the kitchen, we were able to create a cohesive kitchen/dining space with a generous island bench and an open butler’s pantry to the side with the hero piece being the reeded glass display cabinet at the end. The mood and finishes of the new kitchen lead into the large-scale dining room gallery wall and feature banquette below, within a richly coloured and textured envelope.

The furniture selection and joinery design in the dining room respond to the function and purpose of this room as a space to equally gather and entertain as well as a work-from-home place.
