An old tennis court forms the site for the beach front site. The main living areas and master bedroom backset family home. An extremely restrictive building envelope and site descending 4.0m from the existing driveway. A small site of under 500m2, with a 5.0m beachfront suite are positioned on the upper level to achieve extensive views out to sea and down the coast. Interior spaces merge to large wrap around timber decks achieving a seamless flow to the exterior. Sliding interior shutters extend the space further from the dining to give connectivity to the void and entry foyer. Two bedrooms, rumpus and service areas are situated on the ground floor to create a very versatile space for extended family and friends to enjoy their stay.

The main northern deck, extending out from the living with large cantilevered roof and detailed cedar eyebrow for shade, create a seamless transition melding into the surrounding environment. The environment demanded and presented a challenging building platform. The site effortlessly extends to the sands dunes and onward to the breaking surf. With the location and design brief considered the architecture had to replicate a relaxed beachfront Bach.

The exterior pallete enhances e the building form and melds with the beach location. Cedar weather board and Cedar board and batten wasused to create a detailed and relaxed aesthetic. This home was to create an architecture connected to the environment and capture the spirit of the traditional New Zealand Holiday Bach.
