Prestons Road New World and retail development provides a retail shopping hub servicing the needs of both the existing and growing community of Prestons Village, located on the northern edge of Christchurch City.
The 41,329m2 site, originally a rural marshland was developed to house a New World Supermarket along with 4 separate retail spaces with a total building area of 4,780m2.
The design approach for the development was to create a cohesive design that engaged with the landscape providing a pleasant shopping experience along with landscaped outdoor spaces where local community could meet, shop and socialise. This is something that had been missing from the area.
Integrated swales providing the necessary filtered stormwater catchment for the site provides a naturally landscaped visual amenity giving reference to the historical nature of the original site.
