Perched on a clifftop site in Hatfields Beach north of Auckland, we were engaged to construct a significant home for a retired couple and their extended family.

The house, a collaboration of design between Nick Rowe Architecture and Andy Coltart, responds to the clients brief for a richly detailed traditional home which takes direct cues from American Cape Cod architecture.

The house allows the clients to enjoy the panoramic sea views towards the Coromandel Peninsula and Great Barrier Island. It slowly reveals itself from a flat roofed entry through to the immense volume of the hip roof over the living spaces. A covered verandah adjacent to the dining area serves to extend the living space to the exterior, while framing the panoramic views.

A large staircase winds down to a guest suite and additional living spaces at the lower level. These enjoy direct connection to lush planting and the ocean view.

Our team worked closely with Nick Rowe Architecture to give meticulous attention to the interior and exterior detailing. The outstanding level of finish is testament to our skilled craftsmen and subcontractors.
