Pearl Lane Project banner

The Pearl Lane Project is situated on an elevated terraced section in Wanaka township with expansive lake and mountain views.

It was so important to design and build the home to capture and celebrate the environment and outlook.  The shape of the site was exactly what the owners had been looking for to bring their vision to life. The owners worked with Architectural Designer Tony Bennett of TAB Design.

This home was built for the directors of Archi Build Ltd by the team Archi Build Ltd.

The site is approximately 1275m2 and the house is 375m2, and is mostly clad in black stained vertical cedar, with large floor to ceiling doors/windows , and local bagged schist.

The owners envisioned a modern flat roof look with floor to ceiling glass and clean lines to sit discreetly into its alpine environment.

A swimming pool was a 'must be included' on the design list and after throwing around various options it was decided it would be sunk down at the front of the section so while inside the home it doesn't disrupt your line of sight to the views beyond. The swimming pool was formed at the initial stages of the build to ensure access to this area was achievable.  The pool was given the name ‘Mou Waho’ by the owners as when in the water you looked out onto the lake where Mou Waho island is situated and locals refer to it as the lake on the lake.

Outdoor living and entertaining was high on the priority list as the owners enjoy maximizing their recreational time. An outdoor living with overhead louvres was positioned beside the internal living spaces so when the doors were opened it expanded this space. A gas fire was used as there are many open fire restrictions in Central Otago in the summer months, ceiling mounted outdoor electric heaters were also positioned in this space for added warmth in the cooler months, and motorised Luxaflex Evo screens were installed to assist with blocking the persistent Wanaka winds.

An outdoor dining space with overhead louvres, ceiling mounted electric heaters and Luxaflex Evo screens were positioned beside the internal dining area so again the door could be opened and therefore creating vast dining flow.  A built in BBQ with stainless steel top was installed for creating outdoor meals.

The house is accessed of a private lane and comprises of 2 large garages to house all of lives essentials, and lots of off lane parking space. Simple landscaping with easy care planting was requested and they engaged the expertise local ‘The Landscaper’ – Tim Ecroyd to achieve this for them.

Oak flooring links the laundry, guest bedrooms, main bathroom and powder room through to the main living spaces, a floor to ceiling cavity slider can close off the guest wing.  They were able to position two of the guest bedrooms to face the view directly, ensuring guests woke to share the same beauty they did.

The kitchen is an generous U-shape in black oak veneer with a huge amount of storage, integrated Fisher & Paykel appliances and a central feature island in Silestone.  The feature bulkhead helps define this zone from the rest of the open plan space. The owners worked with the team at Mastercraft Mosgiel Kitchens.

To create a more intimate dining space vertical aluminum fins were installed.  The living room focal point is an Escea double sided gas fire with surround in black Oak veneer.

The open plan living then flows into the work/utility space, media room, and master bedroom.

The utility space was used predominately as an office.  Vertical aluminum fins were used to divide the media space off and no windows kept the space snug and popcorn ready!

The master bedroom features a floor to ceiling black Oak veneer wall with statement Buster + Punch scones. The walk in robe is light, bright and has ample storage space.  A master ensuite with a huge picture window above the spa bath and finished in black tiles has a luxurious feel, and elongated vanity with cut out for makeup station was another ‘must be included’ on the brief.

The finished home looks sleek, modern, is warm and inviting and is an entertainers dream.
