This coastal home required an ultra-light-weight green roof to blend in with its surrounds.
The client was delighted to have a green roof that could withstand the wild west coast winds without leaving garden litter around their home.
Project drivers:
Create a green roof that didn’t require structural alterations to the building. Set in a windy, coastal environment the green roof couldn’t have any loose media.
Design:
Centred around the eco-pillow, the roof features two rows of eco-pillows with varying rows of textured plants. Rows were chosen to reduce the overall weight of the roof.
Plants:
A simple coastal palette was selected to thrive in this harsh saline environment. The palette includes Flax, Muehlenbeckia and Coprosma among others.
