By Modern Age Kitchens and Joinery
Located in a 1920s Merivale home, Shades of White is a classic project completed in 2023 by Modern Age Kitchens and Joinery. The brief was to maximise storage and bench space while working within the existing footprint of the space.
The homeowners wanted a light and calming kitchen, something special that embraced the space. As the brief was to utilise the existing footprint, pushing out the kitchen to the end of the wall and creating a U-shape made sense for the space. This then created more storage and more bench room.
The incorporation of curves and minimal handle design creates a softness which sits well with the character of the home and the items collected from the homeowner's travels.
Coconut Acrymatte with a beautiful 12mm Liquid Shell Dekton was specified to add texture and lightness. Liquid Shell was created to honour what lies beneath the ocean and moon with pearlescent shades of white with rippling patterns of the landscape of the ocean floor, reminiscent of the rhythmic nature of life.
Creating a biophilic design by using materials that mimic nature is known to decrease stress and this is exact what it feels like sitting in this kitchen.
Wrapping the majority of the kitchen in this Dekton and enhancing it with warm lighting allows it to be a feature and embrace the calm.
Designed by Larissa Breukelaar of Modern Age Kitchens & Joinery, this stunning contemporary piece creates a beautiful finish for the client's home.
This project is featured in the 2024 Excellence in Design coffee table book by the NKBA.
