Sons of Mary affords was an opportunity to play with experiential design and to utilise architectural elements to embed meaning and memory into place. The internal elements, including the warmth of the timber wall cladding and zoned areas for dining and lounging, define mood and drama to anchor feelings of “this is my place”. The cafe is both a neighbourhood eatery and daytime relaxed and casual venue, yet is designed to seamlessly transition to a cool and sophisticated bar for evening use using discreet and dramatic lighting plan and carefully detailed steel windows.
