Tai Tapu

The garden of this large English country style residence was designed by us at the time of construction of the house in 2005. In 2018, we designed this next stage of the garden to suit the new owners brief, following the same genre as the existing garden.

A large vegetable garden was created on the slope, using macrocarpa to form the raised beds, and brick steps and gravel paths were constructed for access around the tiered gardens. A bespoke glasshouse, shed and wood storage combination were created as one to service the household.  Adjoining this area a large playground was constructed for the clients’ two young boys to enjoy.  Making use of the slope, we used large rocks and railway sleepers to form up the area, with gravel paths and artificial lawn as the surfaces.  The playground includes a slide, sunken trampoline, a bespoke playhouse with bridges and ladders, sandpit, swings, climbing frame and a tunnel.

Ornamental pears (Pyrus calleryana) were used to frame this area, and to replicate parts of the existing garden. Native plants were used to break this area up and soften the hard landscaping.

The extension to the existing garden provides the clients with produce to feed the family and friends and a wonderful fun filled play area for the children.
