By Monk Mackenzie
The brief called for a new house on a challenging, steep site overlooking Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The five bedroom house was conceived as a reinterpretation of a traditional Chinese courtyard house.
It was designed around a large external courtyard while allowing for complete external connection and dramatic views over Kuala Lumpur.
From the point of entry the house offers a range of spatial experiences, transitioning from a generous entrance to an external and sheltered courtyard.
