Taumata Kahawai is located on Tauranga’s waterfront within the city centre zone. The aim of this scheme is to establish strong connections between the city centre and existing urban fabric with the waterfront and its beautiful and vast views. The waterfront is currently occupied by commercial businesses and carparking. These structures create a barrier between the city and the harbour. This scheme proposes ways to open up and connect the site and promote views toward the harbour, Mangatapu, Mangatawa Pā and The Mount - Mauao. The scheme allows access to the waterfront along the entire promenade, whilst providing pockets of urban gathering space at selected points.
