The trend to apartment living
The transformation of Auckland to one of the most liveable and desirable cities has gathered pace over recent years. So too has the attraction and demand for inner city living. It offers convenience, the buzz of city life and minimal commuter travel and cost. The Citizen project located in Newton, Auckland was developed by Urban Collective with this appeal in mind. The contemporary apartment-style offered boutique finely-appointed and flexible living spaces. As a result, European artisan made decorative wall panels by Muros were specified for the apartment project.
The design vision for The Citizen
Construction involved converting and adding floors to an existing four-level office building. High stud and quality fixtures and fittings were specified for a discerning clientele. What’s more, creating a distinctive point of difference for The Citizen was important to Urban (the Designers). As was introducing character walls and appeal to the newly-created living spaces.
Incorporating white painted brick finish
Muros White Loft Brick offers a warehouse-style aged brick; a New York apartment texture that features painted white brick. As a result, Muros was selected for The Citizen to bring a contemporary but homely feel to inner city apartment living.
Equally important was the requirement for a durable but lightweight decorative wall panel appropriate for external installation to a height of five floors. The lightweight of panels (30kgs per 4.1m²) also meant building strengthening and structural compliance (time + money) were not required for The Citizen.
The ability to easily transport, cut and join the brick wall panels offered both economy and speed of installation. Furthermore, the speed and versatility of Muros were demonstrated by installation on multiple wall faces including balconies, beams and narrow soffits.
