The Cottage

The Green Cottage addition at The Cottage School demonstrates how thoughtful material selection and environmental design can enhance learning spaces. Building upon existing Federation weatherboard cottages, the project creates a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor areas through a carefully designed verandah system.
The architects chose Austral Hoop Pine (Araucaria) plywood to create a warm, calming material palette that complements the domestic scale while supporting education, with particular attention paid to acoustic treatments and lighting. This harmonious blend of built form and natural elements creates versatile learning spaces that earned praise from the 2024 AIA Tasmanian Chapter for its successful integration of environmental consciousness and educational design.
