The Hill | Regal Federation Garden Overlooking Newcastle

MUD designed this formal federation style garden to compliment the grandeur of the recently restored 100-year-old residence on site.
The client brief stipulated the design of a formal and low maintenance garden that could host friends, family and the fun and frivolity of the grandchildren on occasion! Where possible the client wanted to make use of existing garden elements and materials.
MUD explored a range of concepts and design ideas before determining that the final garden would include:
- A vibrant planting schedule with more than 18 plant varieties.
- Foreground elements that complement the panoramic view of Newcastle. Specifically, a traditional tiling arrangement with pebbles, the Grecian sundial and Atlantis low hemisphere ceramic pots with plants.
- Pairing of the red brickwork with a bluestone border and capping to create a visual highlight that defines the courtyard area.
- A herb garden to take advantage of the great Northeast aspect.
- Magnolia Little Gem plants around the border to ensure privacy within the garden in the future.
The completed garden has a regal feel that compliments the residence. It’s ideal for entertaining and the grandchildren have already enjoyed an outing in the sun, marvelling at the sundial!
