Langs Beach Studio

Langs Beach Studio is a compact living space that looks towards Bream Head/Whangarei Heads. The small suburban site has been significantly landscaped to enhance and carry through the native flora from the bush-clad valley backing the southern boundary, where the northern site axis runs from the valley to the street and out to the bay.

Key design elements include the external screens that filter sunlight, protect from weather, and maintain privacy. When open, the living area connects seamlessly to the verandah and garden; when closed, the sliding screens create a sheltered outdoor room. This opportunity to change the building envelope recreates a nostalgic feeling of camping while remaining in a permanent living space.
