The Junction | Birkenhead banner

More than a fresh, compelling eatery for the Birkenhead community, the Junction’s roots run deep in land on which it sits. Overlooking Le Roy’s Bush, the café site includes a public viewing platform, built as part of a partnership between City Council and local Māori Iwi: Kaimataara O Wai Manawa.

Described as the place where land and sea are woven together, the traditional history of the area became the foundation for our design narrative. A simple layout allows warm, organic materials shape the space, layered from soft, light marble, oak and linen downstairs into rich mineral tones, velvet and leather in the intimate evening space upstairs. Accented with moulded timber and subtle vertical lines, the space feels equally rooted in the ocean breeze and the mineral-rich terrain.
