By Sowden Building Solutions
Sowden Building Solutions recently completed Union St Hemp House, a contemporary renovation of a free standing house in Dulwich Hill. Owned by Gwen and Richard, the project was designed to transform the existing uninsulated asbestos box at the rear of the home into a bright and spacious open plan living area, complete with kitchen, dining, and sitting area, as well as a small bathroom and laundry.
Responding to the whole room, a stunning open plan kitchen with island bench provides a delightful extension to the home, while new windows on the northern side fill the room with winter warmth and large doors open up onto a shady covered deck, perfect for relaxing on hot summer days. Practical features have also been added to the home, with an all electric setup, UPVC double glazed windows & doors, hempcrete walls, hardwood floors and energy-efficient solutions such as induction cooking, air conditioning, solar panels, and a heat pump for hot water.
The finished project, completed in 2021, stands today as a testament to Sowden Building Solutions' commitment to excellence, providing a beautiful and comfortable living space for Gwen and Richard to enjoy for years to come.
