We decided to call this project "The Sanctuary" because this awesome Westmere home blended so nicely into the surrounding tree's making it feel like a bird sanctuary. This home undertook major construction over 15months. Our client had a young child and wanted to live in during the work as much as possible which made things very tricky from an H&S side of things. We propped the entire house using steel that would eventually become the structure and excavated 4.5m under the existing house.
Doing this created new space for a luxurious new open plan kitchen, indoor & outdoor dinning / living options, a large scullery , new bathroom and a new bedroom all down stairs In space that was once just mud! The slab was formed to an extensive SED design the finish to be burnished concrete and it looked amazing! The extension was kept in keeping with the existing homes era. Modern aluminium joinery was installed with large timber facings to soften the look this was complimented with classic large weatherboards which were painted dark using resene cool colour paint.
The raking ceilings to the new extension made the space feel huge! And were a real challenge carpentry & steel wise. The entire house got the full overhaul and was beautifully renovated, bathrooms were tiled using subway tiles and crafty patterns to give it some style!.
This site had almost no access to undertake this work but we created a plan and executed with precision.
