By Mason & Wales Architects
Twin Peak View is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional mountain lodge overlooking extensive mountain and lake views. The 2.7ha site is located within an outstanding natural landscape at the exclusive Wyuna Preserve.
Generous in its spread, peaks of grey-toned forms sit comfortably in the vast landscape, overlooking expansive views.
Exterior finishes in local schist stonework (quarried from the property), zinc roofing and expressed hardwood provide the home its ‘lodge’ appeal. Inside, high-ceilings, coupled with floor-to-ceiling windows, present breath-taking views to the surrounding mountain peaks and Lake Wakatipu.
"Thanks to the architect's ability to manipulate scale and mass to disguise size, the large house responds to its surroundings in a confident yet recessive manner.
Successfully sited, the house balances living spaces that open to breath-taking vistas of Lake Wakatipu with private, inward-focused spaces that have been pushed back into the site.
Throughout, the material choices are entirely appropriate to the robust design."
