The best Hampton interior design ideas embrace ‘subtle grandeur

The style originates from America and draws heavily from US architectural themes, including mouldings, to elevate minimalist spaces. This means you should focus on:

Clean and symmetrical lines, such as shaker–style profiles and Victorian flourishes
Crisp white finishes with white-painted timber mouldings to contrast against wall tones
Generous proportions across wide skirting boards, deep cornices, and bold architraves

In short, a sense of grandeur is your focus. But one set to a theme of seaside openness with plenty of natural light. It’s a subtle look, but one that’s powerful and reflective.

Ideal Hamptons-style mouldings for your project

The mouldings below will create the ideal interior for this style and provide you with the all-important signature finish.

Skirting boards: For a seamless transition

SK505 skirting was used in this Hamptons Farmhouse by Indah Island.

One of the quiet heroes of this style and the go-to for Hamptons interior design ideas: skirting boards. These features protect walls but also frame an entire space. You have room for creative freedom here, such as using extra tall (185mm – 285mm H), decorative profiles such as Intrim’s SK497 or SK505 skirting board. Incorporate skirting blocks (the sleek Intrim SB01 Skirting Block is a great all-rounder) at the base of the wall where the skirting meets the architrave for a classic Hamptons look.

For a more modern Hamptons aesthetic, explore skirting profiles with more of a square edge, like Intrim SK433 or SK789 skirting board.

Architraves: For cohesive flow

SK58 architrave was used in this luxury inner city project.

Make a statement about your doors and windows with generously sized architraves (90mm – 115mm wide) like the Intrim SK58 Skirting and Architrave. You can either mirror the profile of your skirting for a cohesive look or select a complementary design for added contrast. There’s no strict rule requiring your skirting and architraves to match – what matters most is achieving a balanced, considered feel.

Ceiling details

Intrim’s LB100 lining boards used as ceiling panelling in this Australian Hamptons-inspired home.

This is one of the hidden secrets for interior moulding in the Hampton style. When you look up, you want to impress with a stunning ceiling. That’s where a coffered style will bring big drama and craftsmanship to any space. The look is perfect for a master suite or living area that needs a touch of luxury. You can achieve a coffered ceiling using a variety of Intrim’s mouldings, including our skirting, architraves, cornice moulds, or inlay moulds.

For a more understated look, consider V-groove ceiling panelling. Once painted in the classic, crisp white style, it’ll brighten a space and add a subtle texture, creating a classic, airy feel.Achieve the stunning clean lines of VJ panelling with Intrim’s LB100 Timber Lining Board – lightweight, simple to install, and so effective.

Wainscoting: Adding Coastal Character

In this stunning Hamptons Home, Intrim’s IN23 inlay mould has been paired with CR22 chair rail to create the wainscoting detail.

A hallmark feature of Hamptons interiors, wainscoting brings depth, texture, and timeless elegance to any space. This versatile wall panelling works beautifully in entryways, hallways, living rooms, and dining areas to create a luxury coastal aesthetic.

Pair clean white wainscoting with a neutral colour palette to achieve fresh, coastal charm.

We recommend Intrim IN23 inlay mould paired with CR22 chair rail for Classic Hamptons chic. Or go full height with your wainscoting for a more modern look, using Intrim’s IN16 inlay mould.
