CSR New Zealand has recently expanded its project-focused resource library with the release of a series of sector-specific design guides aimed at supporting architects, designers, builders, and facility owners. These guides provide practical insights, product recommendations, and design considerations tailored to the unique requirements of key sectors across New Zealand. CSR has release six guides across a variety of sectors: Multi-residential, Datacentres, Entertainment/Stadiums, Aged Care, Healthcare and Education.
Multi-residential, Datacentre and Entertainment/Stadium are the latest sector guides to be released, with a plan to build featured case studies, architectural finishing schedules and testimonials to support the guides.
Why Sector-specific Design Guides matter
Building design requirements vary significantly between sectors. A classroom, hospital ward, and aged care facility each have different priorities relating to acoustics, durability, safety, hygiene, comfort, and occupant wellbeing. CSR’s segment guides have been developed to help project teams navigate these challenges and select building solutions that are fit for purpose.
By consolidating sector knowledge, technical expertise, and product solutions into a single resource, the guides provide a practical reference for professionals involved in planning and delivering modern facilities.
Multi-Residential
As urban density increases and housing expectations evolve, the need for smarter multi-residential design has never been greater. The CSR New Zealand Multi-Residential Design Guide brings together industry knowledge, design best practice, and proven building solutions to help deliver apartments and residential communities that perform today and stand the test of time.
Data centres are among the most complex building environments, requiring uncompromising performance, reliability, and adaptability. As an emerging market, CSR New Zealand's Data Centre Design Guide brings together design considerations and building solutions that safeguard critical infrastructure and meet the demands of an increasingly digital world.
Entertainment & stadium environments must deliver exceptional experiences while meeting the demands of large crowds, high traffic volumes, and complex operational requirements. Our Entertainment & Stadiums Design Guide provides practical building solutions to help designers and architects create durable, safe & engaging venues that perform long after the final whistle
The Education Sector Design Guide addresses the growing demand for learning environments that combine functionality, performance, and inspiring design. CSR highlights the importance of creating spaces that support both teaching and student engagement while meeting the technical demands of modern educational facilities.
The guide is complemented by educational white papers and finishing schedules, covering topics such as:
Acoustic performance for learning environments.
Flexible and adaptable teaching spaces.
Interior finishing considerations.
Commercial-grade building solutions for schools and tertiary institutions.
As educational facilities increasingly embrace collaborative learning models, the guide serves as a valuable resource for designing environments that promote concentration, communication, and student wellbeing.
Healthcare environments require a unique balance between clinical performance and human comfort. CSR’s Healthcare Sector Design Guide focuses on helping designers create spaces that support healing, safety, efficiency, and operational resilience.
New Zealand’s healthcare sector faces ongoing demand driven by population growth, ageing demographics, technological advancement, and continued investment in health infrastructure. The guide addresses these challenges by providing solutions that emphasise:
Hygienic and easily maintained surfaces.
Durability in high-traffic environments.
Acoustic comfort for patients and staff.
Interior systems that support healthcare standards and performance requirements.
The guide also showcases real-world healthcare projects and outlines design strategies that help create more comfortable and effective care environments.
One of the newest additions to CSR New Zealand’s resource collection is the Aged and Residential Care Design Guide. The guide responds to New Zealand’s ageing population and the increasing demand for modern care facilities that support both independence and wellbeing.
Successful aged care environments require a careful combination of design thinking and product performance. The guide focuses on creating spaces that are:
Functional and safe.
Comfortable and welcoming.
Durable and easy to maintain.
Supportive of residents’ quality of life.
The resource is supported by case studies, including developments such as Summerset Milldale, where design solutions were used to enhance acoustic comfort, durability, and overall resident wellbeing.
What distinguishes CSR’s segment guides is their practical approach. Rather than focusing solely on products, the guides connect building performance with the needs of the end users, whether they are students, healthcare professionals, patients, or aged care residents. Each guide is supported by additional resources such as finishing schedules, white papers, project examples, and technical guidance, enabling project teams to make more informed decisions throughout the design and construction process.
