Plan your perfect home with Clipsal

There’s so much to think about when you’re building or renovating: layouts, fittings, finishes, and more. It can be all too easy for the electrics to become an afterthought.

But taking the time to make sure you have the right electrical products can be the difference between a home that’s purely functional and one that’s intuitive, responsive, and tailored to daily life to the way you want to live.

That’s where the Clipsal Electric Home Design Service comes in. This professional team provides consultations that take the guesswork out of electrical planning and ensure you get the most out of your home. It’s available for all types of residential projects, from alterations and additions to major new builds.

The Benefits of Good Dlectrical Planning

Homes today are becoming increasingly connected multi-use spaces, so it’s important to set yours up in a way that works for you and your family. Taking time to think about what you want your home to do electrically is what Clipsal calls ‘Electric Home Design’.

The idea is to consider how you’ll interact with each area of your home and its impact on daily life. Would you like a pantry that lights up automatically as you walk in? Network connectivity for a home office or online gaming? A statement light hanging in the stairwell? Do you want to install an EV charger, or make provision for one down the track?

Would you like your home to lower blinds in rooms that get too hot, or activate bathroom ventilation if the kids forget post-shower? Or garden lighting that comes on every day at dusk and shuts off at midnight? What about being able to check on your home via your smartphone if you’re away on holiday? Or schedule lights to turn on and off automatically?

About the Clipsal Design Service

The Clipsal Electric Home Design Service team works with you to understand what would make life in your home easier and more enjoyable. During the four-hour consultation, they make a room-by-room plan of what’s needed to achieve that — from electrical products to tailoring different levels of smart home automation.

“There’s a lot that goes into planning for good electrical design,” says Marcus Riley, National Business Development Manager for the Clipsal Electric Home Design Service. “It’s the use of innovation, technology, and making sure there’s enough of the right product in the right part of the house so clients can live the lifestyle that they want in their home.”

Adam Caballero, director of Adelaide firm Think Architects, says the Clipsal service is an important part of creating a great, finished product. “A lot can go wrong if you don’t do the right planning and the functionality isn’t there, so you’re frustrated day-to-day with the way your house operates.”

Work with the Experts

Clipsal Consultant Jordan Baker says that good Electric Home Design is about creating a sustainable home with convenient solutions for everyday living.

“We discuss the design the client is envisioning. We go through where beds are placed, where couches are going, and if the TV is wall-mounted. We talk about everything from lighting to pools, automated blinds, and energy efficiency.”

Smart homes are increasingly part of the conversation with more homeowners choosing some level of automation. Clipsal’s solution is Wiser Smart Home — a system that can be scaled to your needs and budget, so you can start small and add to it over time.

Jordan says a growing number of customers enjoy being able to control so much through their smartphones with Wiser from wherever they are. “Lights, power points, EV chargers, ceiling fans, solar, smoke detector alerts, your garage door, humidity sensors... the options really are endless,” she says.

For Ryan Voy and partner Ashma, making Clipsal Wiser part of their electrical plan opened up possibilities they had never considered before their consultation.

“Being able to turn off the whole home at night... control the blinds, the heated towel rails, the heated floor, it’s a nice luxury,” says Ryan. “And knowing the doors are shut with the smart sensors. It’s the way it all comes together and is at your fingertips anywhere in the world.”

“For me, it’s the safety and security features,” says Ashma. “I can be at work and look at what’s happening in the house thanks to Clipsal Wiser.”

Adam says he’s such a fan of Clipsal Wiser that he has it in his own home. “It’s really exciting to see its connectivity and how you can monitor and change things from your phone anywhere in the world. It’s so fun to play with the lighting and set different moods and scenes too... it really changes the ambience of a home.”

Style Selection with Switches and Power Points

Choosing the right light switches and power points for your home’s interior look is also part of the in-depth consultation. Clipsal has a variety of designs with finishes that range from monochromatic matte to glass-look, brushed aluminium, timber-edged, and cutting-edge ceramic.

“Aesthetics and innovation are very important when selecting products,” says Marcus. “The design team is there to guide customers through that journey. That could include different colours to match tile or paint colour through to technology to automate their living and improve their lifestyle.”

Ryan and Ashma chose the new Clipsal Solis™ range for their home, creating a sleek modern look with built-in smart home automation. “Solis complements all the wall textures and tiles — it’s great. We went a little overboard, and every switch in our home is smart so we can control everything,” laughs Ryan. “But you can pick and choose, depending on the areas that you really want to automate.”

“I see our home as very elegant,” agrees Ashma. “It has a beautiful aesthetic, but there’s seamless technology behind it.”

Benefits of the Clipsal Design Service

Once your selections are finalised, your consultant creates an itemised product list and a detailed electrical plan showing individual placements. The documentation also helps with budget planning, thanks to the clear breakdown of product costs, and means less risk of “reworks”, where missed electrical elements need to be added later.

“It covers off your needs as a customer, but also it helps the builder to quote it and build it without arguments and afterthoughts later,” points out Adam. “You're really cementing the overall electrical design and costs upfront.”

Working with the Clipsal Electric Home Design Service is an opportunity to get expert advice on how to create a home that is connected and future-ready with energy-efficient solutions. Ashma says the consultation process offered a new perspective on how their home could work for them. “They gave us lots of different options so we could design a home that's very personal to us. You can see your dream home coming together while they are talking through the products.”

“The level of expertise and the depth of knowledge from the Clipsal support staff is really second to none,” agrees Ryan. “Having everything on the plan thought about and documented gives you peace of mind.”
