The Quiet Power of the Finishing Touch

You swap out an old drawer pull for something with a bit more character, and suddenly the whole cabinet feels fresh.

You add a set of turned timber legs to a simple coffee table, and it instantly looks like something from a boutique showroom.

You choose a handle with a little more curve, a little more warmth, and the entire room feels different.

It’s funny how the tiniest things carry the most power.

They’re the parts you touch every day.
The parts people notice without realising they’re noticing.
The parts that shift a project from “good” to special.

Details Are, Where Personality Lives

That’s one of the quiet lessons DIY teaches, to slow down and appreciate the little decisions that give a piece its identity.

A bevel here.
A rounded edge there.
A particular finish that softens the look.
A handle that fits your style perfectly.

These details are small, but they’re never insignificant.
They’re where personality settles in.
They’re where a space begins to feel lived-in, loved, and intentional.

The Beauty of Choosing Your Own Details

That’s why we love seeing what people create with our timber pieces, legs, handles, knobs, brackets, mouldings. They’re small, yes, but they’re also transformative.

A raw timber leg becomes the anchor of a custom table.
A simple handle becomes the feature that ties a kitchen together.
A decorative bracket finishes a corner, a shelf, a verandah with just the right amount of charm.

These aren’t add-ons.
They’re the finishing notes, the ones that set the tone.

Don’t Underestimate the Last 5%

Most projects start with big ideas:
• the shape of the furniture
• the layout of the room
• the colour of the walls
• the size of the build

But the last 5%, the finishing touches, are what people remember.

They’re the parts you notice every time you walk by.
The parts that make you smile.
The parts that make a piece truly feel like your work, not just a project.

So, the next time you’re mid-project and something feels a bit off, a bit too plain, or a bit too predictable, pause for a second and ask yourself:

“Is it the detail I’m missing?”

Because more often than not…
The finishing touch isn’t an afterthought.

It’s the part that makes your work yours.
