Designed by MAP Architecture, this new architectural residential build is currently in construction in Christchurch. Right from the initial design brief, MAP Architecture were committed to ensuring this project had the best level of insulation possible.
Working with Composite Insulation, who have over 30 years’ experience in the New Zealand market, MAP architects specified an insulation system which would increase energy efficiency, durability and performance.
Canterbury is subjected to wide diurnal swings in temperature in summer and cold winters. By using high performance insulation you can passively regulate temperature as the ambient temperature heats and cools throughout the day and night.
Composite Insulation offered an integrated insulation solution for the project.
Goldfoam X700 XPS 100mm insulation was specified for the raft foundation system. XPS is a high-performance closed cell rigid foam board insulation with high compressive strength. Goldfoam 100mm, used in this project delivers an R value (thermal rating) of 3.6.
The solution for the wall application was NF PIR Board which provides one of the highest R-values of any material per thickness - perfect for the harsh New Zealand conditions.
NF PIR Board is an energy efficient thermal insulation board comprised of a closed cell polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam core, bonded to aluminum foil on each side. This project specifies NF Board PIR 80mm (R4.0) outside the framing, the perfect solution for use in combination with the brick exterior cladding.
For the roof, a higher thermal rating of 6.6 was required to meet the H1 insulation standards. To achieve this NF PIR Board 150mm (R7.5) was specified to provide superior performance.
With construction due to be completed in 2026, our clients are looking forward to the all the benefits delivered via the energy efficient insulation system.
