In the summer months, access to shade can be a hot commodity. But it's not just shelter from the sun on offer — versatile shade solutions can also create whole new living areas.
New Zealanders love design that incorporates convenience and flexibility. Achieving a harmonious space that allows inhabitants to relax and entertain with ease is a common goal.
Often, though, the temperate climate can make this a challenge, with weather conditions changing in an instant.
Shade Elements has a solution to this problem: versatile shade systems that can be utilised throughout the home, no matter the weather or season. The company’s products are custom made to match to specifications, and all from their locally owned and operated Auckland facility. Premium materials are sourced globally and manufactured to suit the New Zealand climate, with longevity in mind.
“As Kiwis, we want the ability to enjoy our outdoor spaces year-round, but want to have shade as an option when it gets hot,” a representative from Shade Elements says. “Shade systems can also be combined to create an indoor-outdoor flow for your home or business, perfect for hosting events.”
With the summer in full swing, awnings are in high demand. And it’s not just protection from powerful UV rays that they can help with — awnings can also be utilised as a smart design choice, merging indoor and outdoor living without the need for costly renovations.
In the age of constant technological innovation, the desire for automation is increasing. Shade Elements tackles this with retractable awnings, allowing for ideal comfort in any weather conditions. Automated awnings can also retract automatically in response to certain weather conditions using wind and motion sensors, eliminating potential for stress and damage.

More than just shelter
The unpredictability of the weather can often leave those enjoying the outdoors vulnerable to the elements. But installing screens solves this problem entirely.
Shade Elements’ screens allow users to control the light, airflow, and temperature of an outdoor space. The ability to glide up or down and stop in the position you require means the scope of customising your space is endless.
“When designing a home, creating a cohesive experience makes your space feel unified and balanced. To do this, we need to think about interior shading too. Shade Elements provides options to help draw in light and direct it, as well as maintain temperature and privacy.”
The range of indoor products is comprehensive, including roller blinds, venetians and shutters, allowing everyone to find something suitable.
Roller blinds have seen vast growth recently given their versatility, complimenting both contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Shade Elements supplies a variety of fabric options for roller blinds, offering many colours, textures and light filtration levels.
Shutters offer a minimalist aesthetic while adding a textural quality.
Shade as a vehicle for versatility
Shutters have a traditional appeal and great functionality. They offer good insulation and light control, and provide a distinctive look. Homeowners can use them on any shaped window, making them a perfect solution for those awkward spaces you don’t know what to do with.
Shade Elements offer a choice of Wanaka timber or Omaha PVC shutters, so they can be used all over the house — even in wet areas. The Wanaka shutters also offer benefits in sustainability: the wood used in these shutters generates four times more oxygen when growing than other trees. Shutters also add a great design element as they maintain a minimalist aesthetic while adding a textural quality.
Shade Elements' representative notes, “Modern home design needs to provide versatile solutions for our spaces, making them adaptable and enjoyable all year round. Shade Elements products give you the option to create a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow to optimise your home environment.
“With options for exterior and interior solutions, there’s something for every homeowner.”
