In the world of interior design, mirrors have long been hailed as an essential element to add depth, light, and elegance to any space. From small apartments to large homes, mirrors have the magical ability to transform a room, making it appear larger, brighter, and more inviting.

When choosing a mirror for a particular space, it’s crucial to get the proportions and size of the mirror right, says Stephan Marshall, Managing Director at In Residence, who specialise in premium kitchen, bathroom and hardware fittings.

“Every bathroom, no matter the size and proportions, needs the mirrors to be the perfect size and a design feature in the room.”

In Residence is the exclusive New Zealand stockist of Hawthorn Hill’s latest Metal Framed Mirror collection, which offers stunning classical design and responds to the need for versatility with its wide range of sizes and shapes.

“The Hawthorn Hill collection is incredibly versatile, with a range of mounted and flat mirrors, as well as the option of custom sizes,” says Marshall.

Hailing from England, Hawthorn Hill offers a traditional aesthetic that fits in perfectly with contemporary or classic interiors, and the number of finishes available means the mirror collection can be adapted for any interior style.

The frames, crafted from brass, offer a touch of sophistication, and finishes include: polished brass, satin brass, aged brass, aged bronze, and gunmetal. Additionally, the option for electroplating with chrome, nickel, satin nickel, or gold further expands the customisation opportunities, allowing users to match the mirrors with their interior’s existing fixtures seamlessly.

“Depending on the model, there are also bevel edged and flat options too,” says Marshall.

Choosing a bathroom mirror

The elegant Metal Framed rectangle mirror adds a sophisticated element to this classic bathroom.

A bathroom is more than just a functional space; it is a sanctuary where we begin and end our day. The key to elevating the bathroom's ambiance lies in selecting the perfect bathroom mirror. No matter the size and proportions of the bathroom, a mirror should be more than a mere reflective surface; it should be a design feature that harmonises with the overall aesthetic.

This is precisely where Hawthorn Hill's metal-framed mirror collection comes to the rescue. With a focus on creating mirrors that cater to specific design needs, the brand has become a go-to choice for interior designers and homeowners alike.

The material selection of a mirror is crucial, particularly in the case of bathrooms where moisture and humidity are constant companions. Hawthorn Hill's metal-framed mirrors feature glass with a protective backing, specifically designed for installation in bathrooms.

This feature ensures the mirrors remain pristine and functional even in damp conditions. Moreover, the choice between bevel-edged and flat mirrors allows customers to tailor their selections to suit their design preferences.

“The beauty of Hawthorn Hill's mirror collection lies not only in the materials but also in the exceptional range of finishes available,” says Marshall. “Shapes also play a vital role in mirror selection, and Hawthorn Hill doesn't disappoint in this department. For those who prefer a clean and contemporary look, the flat mirrors, fixed to the wall with concealed fixing plates, come in standard rectangular sizes. However, the brand goes the extra mile by offering the option to order custom sizes, accommodating unique bathroom dimensions effortlessly.”

For a touch of elegance and versatility, Hawthorn Hill's collection includes round, oval, square, and rectangular mirrors with tilting side mounts (available in a classic or Deco option). These mirrors add a touch of movement and dynamism to the space, allowing users to adjust the angle of reflection according to their preferences.

For those seeking practicality with style, the brand presents freestanding vanity/shaving mirrors. These mirrors come equipped with plain and magnifying mirrors on either side, catering to grooming needs with ease. Available in two heights, these freestanding mirrors bring a sense of sophistication and convenience to any bathroom.

Wall-mounted vanity/shaving mirrors are another gem in Hawthorn Hill's collection. Offering both plain and magnifying mirrors on either side, these mirrors come with the option of pivot or concertina mounts. The pivot mirrors provide flexibility in adjusting the angle, while the concertina mounts allow for a space-saving solution that tucks the mirror neatly when not in use.
