The kitchen is becoming harder to separate from the rest of the home. As cooking, dining and living increasingly share the same space, appliances have to work harder without becoming more visually dominant. BORA’s X BO is an example of where that shift is heading.

The professional steam oven brings steaming, baking, roasting and grilling into one appliance, but its more interesting proposition is how those capabilities are integrated. A minimalist black glass façade, handleless design and foldable 19-inch touchscreen give the appliance a quieter presence within the kitchen, while flush or proud installation allows it to sit within different cabinetry configurations.

The same thinking extends to what happens when the oven is actually being used.

In an open-plan kitchen, steam and cooking odours can quickly travel beyond the cooking zone. X BO automatically extracts steam from the oven chamber before the door opens, helping prevent surrounding cabinetry from fogging, while an activated charcoal filter neutralises cooking odours.

Inside, guided programmes, preset cooking modes and a four-point food thermometer bring greater control to steaming, baking, roasting and grilling. Automatic cleaning programmes address another less visible part of the cooking experience.

The result is an appliance that packs considerable capability into a deliberately restrained architectural presence. Rather than adding another standalone object to the kitchen, BORA is approaching the oven as part of the space around it.

That distinction is becoming increasingly relevant as kitchens take on more of the functions once separated into dedicated rooms. The appliance now has to perform, integrate and, in some cases, disappear into the design.
