Over the past couple of years real estate prices have been surging. Investors and homeowners alike have been using this newfound equity to improve their property. Whether you are trying to improve your homes liveability for the family, or refresh your property to sell, the importance of landscape design cannot be overlooked.
Research has shown that improving your landscape, even slightly, is more investment than expense. Studies conducted by landscape economists in the US have established that a good landscape can contribute up to 24% of a property’s value. In a country that values outdoor living as highly as Australia, this figure could be even higher.
Interestingly a blind test conducted by professional garden products company Husqvarna, reached the same conclusion. They established that individuals perceived a 26% higher market value when shown photos of identical homes with and without improved landscape design.
This is fantastic news for the avid gardener or green thumb but not entirely helpful for those who just want to relax outside without the fuss of creating the space themselves. Many professions offer advice and services that cater to outdoor design but one that is often overlooked or unknown, is Landscape Architecture.

Hiring a Landscape Architect to work on your home is a unique experience that is tailored to your needs and budget. A common misconception around engaging a Landscape Architect is that many people believe their outdoor space to be too small. This is simply not the case and can often be the opposite with some of the smaller designs becoming gorgeous, intimate and colourful spaces, such as the terrace gardens shown in the Palmview Residence below.
