An English 17th Century Oak Coffer C.1680

$2,950
Oak
D575 x W1220 x H700 mm

A lovely example of an original English 17th Century plank topped oak Coffer, with nice mortise and tenon joints raised on square section feet. It has two plain fielded panels below a hand carved top rail , with plain geometric carving which is very attractive as most Jacoben coffers have heavier gothic carving. The interior is fitted with its original candle box, a common feature in coffers of this age. The coffer has excellent colour and patination and it stands well up on its legs while retaining the original hinges (some losses as shown but solid). No key present. Antique coffers are a charming example of antique country furniture and one of the earliest forms of furniture on record.
