Louis-Philippe Period Walnut Abbatant

$4,950
Antique Walnut
D470 x W1040 x H1595 mm

This elegant, antique walnut "secretaire a abattant" was crafted in France circa 1840. This tall secretary desk features an ogee molded frieze drawer which is capped with a marble top.

The fall front opens to reveal a beautiful fitted inside "theater " veneered in a bright exotic fruitwood decorated with six functioning drawers with bone handles.

In addition, there are two secret column drawers and an open niche decorated with a star for books and letters. The fold down writing surface has been re upholstered with a black leather top.

The bottom has double doors with working locks and keys with inside shelving for additional storage. There is one old veneer repair to the front drawer which is shown. The secretaire has a rich patination and would make a useful addition to a small library, study or bedroom, because it can be folded up quickly to create more space.
