A box-perimeter pergola presents a level architectural outer edge while the working roof fall and drainage are contained within the frame. It creates a crisp horizontal profile, particularly where the addition is prominent from the street, garden or main outlook. It is not a flat roof.

The perimeter must contain the structure, fixed acrylic roofing, gutter, outlets and appropriate service access. Member depth, post position, colour and the selected acrylic sheet determine how the frame relates visually to the home and how the space responds to daylight.

At the Mt Maunganui project, the perimeter, acrylic roof, façade relationship and drainage were designed to read as one deliberate addition over a first-floor deck.

Sanctuary Pergolas designs, builds and installs bespoke fixed-roof pergolas for Auckland homes and selected commercial projects.
