D.153.1 Lounge Chair by Molteni&C
Designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair is part of the furniture of Gio Ponti’s private house in via Dezza in Milan. This re-edition is produced by Molteni&C based on the original drawings from the ponti archives.
Brass structure, cover in bicolour white-blue leather or “Punteggiato” fabric, designed by Ponti for Rubelli in 1934. The fabric reinterprets the age-old technique of velvet-weaving, bringing it up to date with contemporary patterns, such as close sequences of staggered disks with various gradations of colour. Exhibited at the Salone del Mobile 2012, the D.153.1 chair enriches the Gio Ponti furnishing Collection.

Giovanni “Gio” Ponti, (Milan, November 18, 1891 - Milan, September 16, 1979), is one of the Italian masters of architecture. He was also a designer and essayist and one of the most important of the twentieth century.
Other than the great architectural works which carry his unmistakable signature, he created a vast amount of work in the furniture sector. This is demonstrated in his three Milanese houses which were fully furnished in the "Ponti" style. The houses in via Randaccio, 1925, Casa Laporte in via Brin, 1926 and the last in via Dezza, in 1957 is an "expression" of his home design ideas.

We are extremely lucky to have fostered strong relationships with renowned international furniture brands and designers including Molteni & C, Timothy Oulton, Dedon and Tribu. Buying directly from international suppliers enables us to remove the added layers of costs and complexity so we can pass the savings on to the consumer.
What is great quality?
We believe it is a fine balance of design and materials. That is why prior to adding any product collections we meet the artisans in their workshops and factories anywhere they manufacture around the world, which involves us spending up to 3 months a year travelling to Asia and Europe. All too often we have been shown cheaper items but they turn out to be inferior. All our staff are highly trained professionals who can tell you about our furniture in detail.
