The Eames sofa is the last piece of furniture produced by the Eames Office, which completed the design after Charles Eames died in 1978. It went into production in 1984 and has been manufactured by Herman Miller ever since.
Charles and Ray Eames designed the sofa to complement their plush soft pad chairs and the sleek chaise. It stands as a graceful reminder of the honest genius of Charles and Ray Eames.
With its emphasis on beautiful materials and simplified forms, the Eames sofa exemplifies the best in modern furniture design. Its angled profile and clean planes showcase a harmonious combination of rich walnut or teak, soft leather, and polished aluminium. Equally fitting for the contemporary home or office, it's a luxurious place to settle back and relax.
Seat cushions rest on a fabric-reinforced rubber webbing for comfortable body support. Seat and back cushions are 5cm-thick foam; seat cushion bottoms are covered in ventilating nylon fabric.
Frame and back panels in solid walnut or teak are polished smooth and hand finished with gunstock oil. Seat, back, and arm cushion upholstery is top-quality leather with a supple feel. Legs and arm supports are brightly polished, die-cast aluminum, which along with the design’s steel braces, provide durable strength.
Available as either a 2- or 3-seat design that both compliments other Eames designs and exemplifies stylish design for the home or office.
