The look of solid timber slat walls without the cost, weight, or complexity. FOLD wood wall panels are custom-manufactured from premium timber veneer on a stable MDF substrate — available in 14 species, cut to your exact wall dimensions, and designed for straightforward installation with our hidden cleat mounting system.

Each panel is made to order in our New Zealand workshop. Choose your timber, specify your wall size, and we cut, fold, veneer, and finish your panels ready to install. We ship throughout New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.

Design Your Wall Request a sample → Why FOLD vs solid timber?
Solid timber slat walls typically cost $300–400/m² installed and require specialist fabrication. FOLD panels achieve the same visual depth and shadow lines using precision-folded timber veneer on MDF — lighter, more dimensionally stable, a fraction of the price and available in NZ Group 1s, B-s1,d0 Fire rating without Intumescent Coatings.

Three fold profiles (Plain, Peak, Ridge) let you control the look from clean and minimal to bold and architectural.

Three Panel Profiles

  • Plain — Flat panels for clean, contemporary walls. The simplest expression of natural timber.
  • Peak — A single centre fold that creates dimensional interest and catches light across the wall surface.
  • Ridge — An angled fold that adds architectural depth and stronger shadow lines.

All three profiles can be mixed on the same wall for a custom pattern, or used consistently for a uniform look.

14 Timber Species + MDF

Every panel is veneered with real timber on a stable E0 or Fire Rated MDF substrate Choose from:

  • North American: Cherry, Hard Maple, Walnut, White Ash, White Oak
  • European: Oak, Beech
  • African: Anegre, Sapele
  • Australasian: Eucalyptus Oak, Hoop Pine, Jarrah, New England Maple, Tasmanian Blackwood
  • MDF: Unfinished — ready for paint in any colour

All veneers are sourced from trusted suppliers we've worked with for years. Grain and colour will vary naturally between panels — this is real timber, not a printed finish.

Custom Sizing

Every order is cut to your wall. No standard sizes to work around.

  • Panel Width: 100–520mm
  • Panel Height: Up to 3050mm
  • End Caps: Matching panels to cover exposed edges at corners and wall ends
  • Skirting Notches: Panels can be notched to sit over existing skirting boards
  • Use our online configurator to enter your wall dimensions and see exactly how many panels you need and what they'll cost.

Finishing Options

  • OSMO Hard Wax Oil — A durable, natural oil finish that protects the timber and enhances the grain. We apply this in our workshop so your panels arrive ready to install. Recommended for high-traffic areas, hospitality, and anywhere the wall may be touched.
  • Unfinished — Raw veneer, ready for your own finish on site. Suitable for MDF panels being painted, or if you prefer to apply your own oil or lacquer.

Installation

FOLD panels mount to the wall using a hidden aluminium cleat system — no visible screws or fixings on the face of the panels.

  1. Fix cleats to your wall — Aluminium cleats are screwed horizontally to the wall at set spacings (cleats and fixings included with every order)
  2. Hang panels — Each panel hooks onto the cleats from above and locks into place
  3. Fit end caps — Cover exposed edges at corners, windows, or wall ends

Most walls can be completed in a few hours. No specialist tools required beyond a drill, level, and tape measure. For larger commercial projects, we can recommend installers in your area.
