Mason & Wales Architects is an award winning, Registered New Zealand Institute of Architects Practice based in Dunedin with studios in Queenstown, and Wanaka. We are involved with a wide range of projects of all sizes and types throughout New Zealand. Mason & Wales is the oldest architectural firm in New Zealand, having been founded in 1863 by William Mason, the first architect to live and work in New Zealand, and the first Mayor of Dunedin.
Mason & Wales Architects is a Registered New Zealand Institute of Architects Practice based in Dunedin and is one of the largest Architectural Offices in the South Island of New Zealand. Although our head Office is based in Dunedin, much of our work is for projects sited throughout New Zealand. For many projects, the site, the Client, Specialist Consultants and our Office are based in different places and often overseas in different time zones.
Mason & Wales Architects has established and maintained a reputation for quality design, and the preparation of industry leading technical documentation and construction documentation. Typically, the requirements for our projects are highly complex and require a high quality of finish, stringent cost control and tight time constraints. We have found that the disciplines required to manage projects and to serve Clients in different locations lead to very successful projects. From this experience, we have developed effective methods of communication between all partners in each project as well as Quality Assurance systems which ensure excellent contract documentation and administration.
This approach has fostered and maintained the development of many long-term Client relationships – some private, some institutional and some corporate. These continuing relationships, often involving highly specified and complex buildings built to tight budgets and timetables, are the best testimony to our performance as Architects.
