A new family home at Acacia Bay, Taupō, built with care by a wonderful team.

Composed through a clustering of gabled forms, the arrangement creates pockets of appropriately-scaled and welcoming spaces, both inside and out. This sequence of living spaces is partitioned by steel joinery, providing flexibility in the enclosure of each room. Deep black concrete monoliths punctuate the house, with the palette of timber and stone providing warmth in counterpoint.

Fraser Cameron Architects. Fraser Cameron Architects Ltd is a Taupō-based architectural practice established in 1997 by Architect Fraser Cameron ANZIA and Belinda Ellis, both graduates of the University of Auckland School of Architecture. The practice is supported by Graduate Architects Richard Claughton and Harriet Cameron, who joined Fraser and Belinda in 2020, and Landscape Designer Hugo Cameron, who joined the practice in 2026. Our work spans throughout New Zealand, with a focus on residential projects, working across a range of budgets and scales. This includes well-considered, compact homes and smaller renovations, to more expansive projects. Each project is designed as an enduring piece of architecture, intended to be enjoyed over generations. Operating as a small, engaged studio, we work collaboratively across all stages of a project, offering a full range of architectural services. We also offer interior architecture and landscape design services that are tailored to each client and thoughtfully aligned with the overall design of the home.
