This historical Victorian era house has a contemporary addition – it’s seen as a public asset and the relationship to the streetscape is critical. We built a garden that stitches the old and new in a harmonious composition. Corten steel and in-situ concrete are blended with traditional materials like sandstone.  Natural bedrock has been exposed and polished to compliment sandstone paving. Detailed craftsmanship has created a number of distinct spaces and hidden places.

About the
Professional

With our strong commitment to collaboration, we embrace the perspective of our clients as well as that of the architects and the designers of the space. This pushes us to go beyond where others stop in the pursuit of exceeding our client’s expectations.

After the initial design phase, when the details of the vision for our clients gardens have been determined, the construction phase is when this vision is physically realised. Through over 32 years spent building over 1200 gardens, Michael Bates and his senior team have honed the skill of project management required to create stunning gardens to a fine art.

Managing the flow of work is a crucial aspect in enabling Bates projects to be delivered on time, and is a skill only gained through experience. This is why many of Australia’s leading landscape architects, landscape designers and interior designers trust Bates to deliver gardens they have designed - we never compromise on the final result.
