The private yet open balance is achieved by creating alcoves that on either side provide shelter and privacy. Yet are functional as they frame and zone outdoor entertaining areas on the upper level. At the back of the alcove is floor to ceiling Atlantic48 Eurostacker™ doors that span the entire wall. The whole concept of indoor-outdoor flow has changed. It’s not just single sliding doors opening up spaces to the outdoors – houses now have entire walls of glazing and extra-large openings, as this project illustrates.

These 2.6m x 4.5m sliding doors are paired with additional Pacific Residential Eurostacker™ sliding doors on the lower level. Buckingham says “Both sets of doors have flush sills that create a smooth surface, which doesn’t trap dirt and debris. They also feature a mortice escutcheon lock system, which is machined into the joinery for a clean finish, added security and ease of operation.” Another special feature of the joinery is the integration of the windows with the kitchen benchtops. The custom-designed windows were built to fit the granite with exacting detail.
