The Challenge: Defining Spaces with Quiet Luxury

The core challenge was to design rugs that did more than just occupy floor space. They needed to:

• Establish a Unique Identity: Create a visual language that was bespoke to the EVE brand.
• Enhance Ambiance: Soften acoustics, define circulation paths, and add layers of warmth and texture.
• Connect Diverse Areas: Thread a consistent design narrative through private rooms, public areas, and transitional spaces.
• Reflect the Local Environment: Draw inspiration from the Australian palette to create a sense of place.
• Innovate Beyond the Floor: Explore using textiles as art and architectural elements.
• The goal was to achieve a sense of quiet luxury that felt both timeless and deeply connected to its local roots.

The Solution: A Story Told in Thread

To meet these objectives, we developed a bespoke design process rooted in collaboration and precision. Each rug was meticulously planned to fulfil its specific function while contributing to the hotel's overarching aesthetic.

Bespoke Design for Every Setting

No two spaces are alike, and our approach reflected that. We custom scaled every rug to fit its designated setting perfectly. This ensured that the patterns and textures were proportional to the room, creating a balanced and harmonious environment.

In the guest rooms, the rugs provide a soft, welcoming foundation, turning each room into a personal sanctuary. Along the corridors, they guide guests, absorbing sound and defining pathways with subtle visual cues. In shared areas like the reception and co-working spaces, larger, more expressive designs anchor the furniture and help delineate functional zones, all while standing up to higher foot traffic. The Presidential Suite features a truly luxurious piece, elevating the space with an unmatched level of detail and quality.

A Palette Inspired by Australia

The colour scheme was central to the project's success. We conducted detailed colour matching to capture the essence of the Australian palette. The resulting tones are warm, earthy, and sophisticated, reflecting the natural beauty of the local landscape. This thoughtful use of colour ensures that the rugs feel integrated into the hotel's design, rather than being simple additions. They complement the architecture, furniture, and lighting to create a rich, layered experience.

From Floors to Walls: Extending the Narrative

One of the most innovative aspects of this project was the use of rugs as vertical art. This approach moves textiles from a purely functional role to a decorative one, extending the story from the floor to the walls. These custom pieces serve as striking backdrops and focal points, adding texture and visual interest in unexpected ways.

The pinnacle of this concept will be the installation of a signature Olsen and Ormandy Handknott rug. This piece is not destined for the floor but will be installed vertically as a major art feature on the Cloister Wall, currently under construction. This bold move transforms the rug into a testament to craftsmanship and artistic vision, becoming an integral part of the hotel’s architectural identity.
