This coastal garden took its tropical inferences from the house with its Balinese roof lines and large shaded outdoor areas. The client loved tropical plants, and the large palms which were already existing on site set the tone for the planting. The pool is typical of resort style pools with the Bale set in the middle of shallow play ponds and wide steps for lounging and seating. The unique weir spilling into the gravel trough creates an almost undivided line between the pool and the gardens. Colour and texture make up the low-level planting scheme. Clipped pink Iresine creates panels of colour in the plantings and is offset by the rich green carpets of star jasmine and the drama of the big bromeliads and cycads.
