Crafting Serenity: The Vision Behind Halo House’s Mediterranean-Inspired Design
Located in the charming Buddina on the Sunshine Coast, Halo House is a stunning testament to innovative design and thoughtful execution. This home seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, making the most of Queensland’s beautiful weather and poolside living.
Josh Dzufer and Jarrad Cramp, the visionaries behind Halo House, emphasizes the importance of location in the project. “We were drawn to Buddina for its proximity to the beach—only 100 meters away—while still enjoying the privacy of being set back from the shoreline. It’s a quiet, protected beach that makes for lovely dog walks & the beachside lifestyle” he shares.
The design of Halo House reflects Josh’s desire for a unique yet understated aesthetic. He explains, “From the start, we aimed to create a design that reflects our personality without being too extravagant. We envisioned a striking limestone facade that would serve as a timeless first impression, featuring soft arches inspired by Mediterranean architecture.”
This vision was further enhanced by Jarrad, who highlighted the significance of collaboration. “Working with BRD was essential; they understood our vision for a high-end finish and maximized the space’s volume and natural light. The process was seamless, allowing us to move swiftly into engineering and construction,” he notes.
At the heart of the home lies a beautifully designed pool, strategically positioned to allow abundant natural light and visibility from all main areas, including the entry, living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. “The pool serves not just as a place to swim but also as a visual centerpiece,” Josh explains, emphasizing how it creates a serene environment throughout the home.
However, the project was not without its challenges. Josh recounts, “One of the key challenges was minimizing the visibility of larger concrete elements. When we purchased the house at auction, we hadn’t intended to buy it; we simply registered to bid and ended up winning at a favorable price.” This unforeseen acquisition prompted innovative solutions from the builders to achieve a minimal, seamless finish, working closely with engineers and the BRD design team.
Jarrad adds, “A significant factor in the success of this project was ensuring that designers and builders were aligned. We had to communicate our vision clearly, and keeping everyone involved helped us achieve the best outcome.”
The execution of Halo House involved meticulous planning and collaboration. Achieving high ceilings and expansive voids required intricate coordination among the team. “The stonemasons dedicated about five to six months to installing stone cladding on both external and internal walls, delivering an exceptional and seamless finish,” Josh points out, highlighting the craftsmanship that went into the build.
Incorporating natural stone throughout the house presented its own set of complexities. “We opted for stone slabs on the floors and walls, deviating from conventional placements. The intricacies of installing natural stone posed a notable challenge due to the variability of the material,” Jarrad explains.
Despite these challenges, the result is a home that embodies a harmonious indoor-outdoor lifestyle. “Halo House represents not just a house but a home where our family can enjoy the beauty of the Sunshine Coast for years to come,” Josh concludes.
In the end, Halo House stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, innovative design, and a commitment to excellence, creating a serene retreat that beautifully reflects its surroundings.
