A meticulous restoration of a Heritage Villa in Freemans Bay, featuring the revival of a cherished 25-year-old wallpaper, expertly hung to enhance the villa's authentic charm while addressing the challenges of working with delicate materials.
The owner had purchased an exceptional wallpaper during his time back 25 years ago, in the UK.
Since then he had stored the wallpaper in his attik, not knowing in what room or house it would ending up to decorate a precious room, until, many years later, back in NZ, he purchased a house and renovated it room by room, very carefully to the authentic needs of his villa, until he got to this last room, where he decided to get that wallpaper up, after 25 years!
A good friend of his, recommended our services, and so we got into this project, the wallpaper turned out to be in a pretty good nick, despite some mice were nibbling on some edges, but luckily the damage was only minor. And to get the walls of an old villa prepared, l had to fill unevenness, and then machine sand all, previously painted, for 2 hrs each wall, until they felt good enough to be decorated.
lt turned out that the old wallpaper wasn't so easy to hang, as the varnish on its surface had disappeared, and made it very fragile to work with.
In the end, we were embracing a delightful result, also carried by the miracle, that the owner had been purchasing 9 rolls 25 years ago, the exact number of rolls, the walls and size of his room were asking for, in a house, he didnt even own only several years later.
