A terraced hillside garden overlooking Moncks Bay in Christchurch. Expansive foliage planting surrounds the contemporary house designed by Common. A gold winning garden in the Registered Master Landscapers - Landscapes of Distinction Awards 2021.
The design of the landscape takes cues from the architecture and the views out to the Christchurch coastline. A paved terrace outside the house steps down to lawn terrace & garden seating area. On the street side of the property a broad swathe of naturalistic native planting wraps around the house. An elevated boardwalk cuts through this planting to the meet the front door. Two separate decks from the upper level of the house provide options for outdoor living that allow for varying sun aspect and wind direction during each day.
A restrained hard landscape materials palette complements the house architecture while also providing a satisfying contrast to the looser, textural planting design.
Implementation of the landscape design was completed by Stealth Construction and Landscapes Unlimited.
At Canopy, we like to get a sense of fulfilment from our jobs. This happens when clients feel passionately about what they are trying to create. It is our job to listen to turn ideas and visions into something real, contributing with the knowledge of all things landscape that we have learned through the years.
There are many layers of depth to landscape architecture. From creating the picturesque, the formal and functional through to enriching the ecology of the land and providing better connections. There is also aiding in the interpretation of cultural landscapes and creating memorable spaces that may become culturally significant.
Our aim at Canopy is to add as much depth and meaning to the landscape and given the opportunity, that is what we will do.
